September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and the ribbon color is gold. It's been important to us for a long time. Before we founded White Duck Espresso, we helped found the Beat Childhood Cancer nonprofit, and led it for a decade.
Our first son, Ezra, died from neuroblastoma cancer in 2010. He simply ran out of treatment options. We had gotten a crash course in how childhood cancer is battled, and discovered there weren't great odds or options for many of the types of cancers that kids get.
We partnered with many passionate families and supporters to create a network of over 60 children's hospitals where kids could get on state-of-the-art clinical trials. It gave kids immediate options for novel treatments, AND pushed the standard of care forward at the same time for many of these cancers.
We connected with doctors, traveling all over to understand how research was done, what the roadblocks were, and how that research turned into real options for kids. We pushed that work forward alongside them, spending time with the FDA, lawmakers, pharmaceutical companies, and local and national leaders.
That work still happens today, and we're glad to support it in part through White Duck. 
We don't pop into the White Duck marketing much, because this place isn't about us - it's about you, and the (currently 42!) people who make White Duck run. But we're here every day, and have lived in Tampa Bay for 20+ years. Ezra was born here. Remembering Ezra in this way is good, and we are happy that you get to know him just a little.
