Rather talk it through?

Modbar Espresso AV is an under-counter espresso system. The taps stand on the counter while the boilers and controls sit in modules below it, so nothing blocks the view between the barista and the guest. Modbar calls it the most consistent and stable under-counter espresso machine available. It was the first product La Marzocco and Modbar designed together, and it is built and sold in full partnership with La Marzocco, using La Marzocco components and portafilters.

This system is two Espresso AV taps running from one espresso module, plus one Modbar Steam tap with its own steam module. Each espresso tap has a lever with four programmable positions. Shots are dosed by volume, and with the optional scales they can also be brewed by mass or by brew ratio. Water is heated in stages for stable temperature from shot to shot.

Features

  • Under-counter modules: up to two taps per module, with easy access to the water, power and drain connections.
  • Programmable lever: four programmable positions on each espresso tap.
  • Brewing modes: by volume (pulses), by mass or by brew ratio; mass-based brewing uses the optional scales. La Marzocco's catalog says the volumetrics come from the Linea PB.
  • Consistent temperature: multi-stage water heating, a heated brew group and PID temperature control.
  • Display and shot timer: an intuitive display and a shot timer.
  • La Marzocco portafilters: the system uses La Marzocco portafilters.
  • Modbar Steam tap: a double-walled Pro Touch wand with dry steam, minimal purge needed, an omnidirectional ball fitting, a refresh button that recirculates water, and a handle designed to match the Espresso AV.
  • Customizable: tap colors and the finishes of the handles and portafilters can be customized.
  • Installation: La Marzocco's 2019 pre-installation guide for this setup (Modbar AV 2 Group + Steam) calls for a 208-240V single-phase, 20 A circuit with a NEMA 6-20R receptacle and a water supply valve for each module, and taps no more than 5 feet from their module. An external pump is included and needs about 1 square foot of space within 5 feet of the module. For cabinet planning, the same guide gives each module as 17 in wide, 15 in deep and 8½ in high, plus clearance (11 in in width, 3 in in depth, 6 in in height), in a cabinet at least 27 in wide and 20 in deep.
